Registration for 2010 Citizens' Police Academy
February 1, 2010
Leland, N.C. - The Leland Police Department announced that it is accepting applications for its 2010 Citizen's Police Academy. This will be the third academy put on by the Leland Police Department.
The academy, which will be held on Wednesdays beginning March 3rd, will provide participants with a better understanding of the police department's operations and the functions of different divisions within the department. Graduation will be held at the Leland Town Council meeting on May 20th.
"We believe our Citizens' Police Academy will create a greater sense of mutual understanding between our citizens and our Police Department," Corporal Ernest of the Leland Police Department said. "This program is part of our department's focus on developing a stronger working relationship with members of the community."
The concept of a citizen academy started in England in 1977. The first such course in the United States was held by the Orlando, Florida Police Department in 1985.
