When should I call 911?
Though “911” should only be used for emergency calls, the 911 Center, known as Central Communications or “CCOM” in Brunswick County, is the central dispatch center of the Leland Police Department. CCOM is manned 24/7 and must be contacted for Leland Officers to be dispatched to a call. If you have a non-emergency situation that requires an officer to be dispatched, please call CCOM at 253-7490. How do I get a copy of an incident report?
If you are victim of an offense in Leland where a report is taken, you may contact the Leland Police Department M-F, 8 AM – 5PM to obtain a copy of the report. You must allow 2 -3 business days for the reports to be processed and available to be provided to you. The Leland Police Department can only release reports to individuals directly involved in an incident and can not release reports to relatives or friends. If you are the guardian or parent of a juvenile involved in an incident, you may obtain a copy of an incident report.
When and how do I get an accident report?
Like incident reports, accident or “collision” reports require a few days to process and be available to the individuals involved. Please allow 2 – 3 business days for collision reports to be completed. Eventually, collision reports will be available through the Department of Motor Vehicles after submission by the Leland Police Department.
Can I volunteer with the Police Department?
The Leland Police Department has received numerous inquiries by concerned citizens willing to volunteer their time in assisting our department and for that, we are grateful. We currently have volunteers assisting us with the “Are You OK” Program, Community Resource Programs and former police investigators working our “Cold Cases”. We also have interns assisting with the updating and management of new record keeping systems and protocols within our department. If you would like to volunteer, we are interested in having the assistance of anyone that has experience in crime analysis and familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Access that would assist furthering our crime analysis program
How can I become a Leland Police Officer?
All applicants interested in becoming a police officer with our agency must first complete their Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET). All applications should be submitted to the Town of Leland’s Human Resources Officer located at 102 Town Hall Drive with all applicants completing both a Town of Leland Employment Application and a Criminal Justice Form F-3 “Personal History Statement” . Current openings are posted in the employment section of the Town of Leland Web Page. All applications are reviewed and placed on an eligibility list based on the minimum requirements. If a position becomes available, candidates will be contacted and interviewed by the Support Services Division Commander to determined continued interest and qualifications. Applicants that successfully complete this process are required to appear before an Officer Review Board, take a written test then complete a final interview with the Chief of Police. All applicants that pass this process are ranked by their performance and moved to a "Best Qualified List" or "BQL". Candidates are chosen based on the needs of the department and selection by the senior staff.
