Announcements:


New Programs!
This month we are rolling out two new programs: Happy Little Singers, an early childhood music program for kids ages 9 mos. to 6 years; and How to Cut your Grocery Bill by 50% or More!, a couponing class. See below for more information on these great programs.

Bark in the Park
Leland’s popular Bark in the Park returns on March 10 at 10 a.m. This is a fun-filled day dedicated to you and your best 4-legged friend. See below for details.

Youth Art Day
Bring your kids, grandkids and loved ones to our second annual Youth Art Day on March 17 at 10 a.m. We will have a wide variety of art activities for children. See below for details.

Sea Leland
A reminder to those who have spots reserved on the Sea Leland Tour, please be sure to verify your tour date/time. We are offering three tours this year: 3/24 (noon and 2 p.m.) and 3/25 (noon). The spring planting season is almost upon us. We currently have a few plots available. See below for more information.

New Programs and Upcoming Events:


Happy Little Singers
* What:  A FUN childhood music and movement class for children ages 9 mos. to 6 years and YOU, the parent/grandparent/caregiver. Sing, dance, play and jam on instruments all while learning basic music competence and enhancing cognitive, physical, social, emotional and language development.
* Where:  Leland Classroom Annex (102 Town Hall Dr.) 
* When:  Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. beginning March 15.
* Fee:  $10 per class per family (includes parent and one child). $5 for each additional child. Contact Leland Parks and Rec. to register 910-332-4823. Drop ins are welcome.

How to Cut your Grocery Bill by 50% or More!
* What:  Does buying groceries for your family become a financial burden each month? Would you just like to save some money? If so, come learn how to cut your grocery bill by 50% or more! In this fun and exciting workshop, you will learn the basics of couponing, where to find coupons, rules of saving in the grocery store, coupon organization, grocery store policies, stockpiling, budgeting and the use of online databases to assist with couponing. Each participant will receive a coupon guidebook and $30 worth of coupons to get started.
* Where:  Leland Classroom Annex (102 Town Hall Dr.) 
* When:  The second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. beginning March 14.
* Fee:  $12. Contact Leland Parks and Rec. to register 910-332-4823. Class space is limited, so call now to reserve your spot at your preferred date.

March 10 – A Bark in the Park
* What:  A Bark in the Park is an event centered on people and their dogs!  This event will include a free rabies clinic, dog adoption, raffle with prizes, demonstrations and more from other pet-centric businesses in Leland and surrounding areas.  Come out and enjoy a day in the park with your best friend! Sponsored by Capeside Animal Hospital.
* Where:  Leland Municipal Complex Park (102 Town Hall Dr.) 
* When:  March 10, 2012; 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
* Fee:  FREE!

March 17 – Youth Art Day
* What: Youth Art Day is a day for youth to come out and experience the many aspects of art. We will have hands-on art stations provided by DREAMS of Wilmington including pottery, drumming and flag making. There will also be free face painting. Leland Parks and Rec. will provide hot dogs and drinks. Art activities are geared for ages 8 and up, but all ages are welcome to attend.
* Where:  Leland Recreation Building (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When:  March 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
* Fee:  FREE!

April 7 – Egg Hunt
* What:  This holiday event features egg hunts for children divided into three age groups (ages 0-4, ages 5-7 and ages 8-10), refreshments, prizes and more.
* Where:  Leland Municipal Complex Park (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When:  April 7, 2012, 9:45 a.m. (Egg hunt starts at 10 a.m.)
* Fee:  FREE! For children 10 and younger.

Leland Community Garden 
* What:  The Town of Leland Community Garden has several plots available.. The garden provides a supportive environment where local gardeners can exchange ideas and knowhow while having fun at the same time with their neighbors. Individual plots are available in the following sizes: 10’x20’, 10’x10’ and 4’x10’. Participants may also chose to garden the community plot where all produce will be donated to the Manna Ministries food bank. There is no charge for the plots and water is provided on site. Plots will be assigned on a first-come, first served basis. If you are interested, please visit http://www.townofleland.com/ParksAndRec_Programs for an application.
* Where:  Leland Community Garden. Across the street from the playground on the municipal campus, 102 Town Hall Drive 
* When:  Community work day each Friday at 3:30 p.m.
* Fee:  Plots are FREE and water is provided on site! Please contact Leland Parks and Recreation at 910-332-4823 for more information. 

Ongoing Programs:


Our ongoing recreation programs include: Leland’s Little Learners, Garden Club, Scrapbooking, Line Dancing, Hooks and Needles, Expressive Art and Leland Hometown Opry (Sam Miller Jam). For more information on these programs, please click here.

Wilmington Senior Softball Association 2012 Season
* What:  If you are retired and between the ages of 55 and 75 and love to play softball, this is the game for you. 
* Where:  Olsen Park, Ogden Park, Empie Park
* When:  Season runs from April to October
