We have a ton of events and programs going on this month…no fooling! Announcements:


Community Egg Hunt
Our ever-popular Egg Hunt returns this Saturday. We will have hunts for several different age groups and a special appearance by the Easter Bunny. See below for details.

Plant Giveaway Returns
We have a couple thousand plants to give away to Leland residents on April 21. Come stock up for your garden and yard. Green thumb not required. See below for details.

Family Fun Day Kicks off Movies in the Park Series
We have a full evening of family-friendly activities planned on April 28 as we will host a Family Fun Day prior to our first Movie in the Park of the season (Happy Feet 2). See below for more information. 

Leland Market
This year’s market kicks off May 12. This year we are including handmade crafts in the market, in addition to the fresh produce and local baked goods. If you are interested in being a vendor, click here.

Cultural Arts Committee
The Town is seeking members for the new Cultural Arts Committee. If you are interested in guiding the development of the arts in Leland and the new Cultural Arts Center, you are encouraged to apply. Click here for an application.

New Programs!
Come try our two newest programs: Happy Little Singers, an early childhood music program for kids ages 9 mos. to 6 years; and How to Cut your Grocery Bill by 50% or More!, a couponing class. See below for more information on these great programs.

New Programs and Upcoming Events:


April 7 – Egg Hunt
* What: This holiday event features egg hunts for children divided into three age groups (ages 0-4, ages 5-7 and ages 8-10), refreshments, prizes and more.
* Where: Leland Municipal Complex Park (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: April 7, 2012, 9:45 a.m. (Egg hunt starts at 10 a.m. Sharp!)
* Fee: FREE! For children 10 and younger.

April 21 – Tree and Plant Giveaway 
* What: Join us for our annual Free Tree and Plant Giveaway to get your free plants to help beautify the town and protect the environment. We will have thousands of trees and plants of many different species to give away. They will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. 
* Where: Leland Municipal Complex Park/ Recreation Building 
* When: April 21, 2012, 10 a.m. until all plants are gone.
* Fee: FREE!

April 28 – Family Fun Day
* What:  What better way to spend an afternoon than with your family!  Join us for family fun in the park with a Touch a Truck event featuring fire trucks, police cars and other exciting equipment, a bounce house, games, crafts and free hotdogs! Following the event will be a Movie in the Park!  (Partnered with UNCW Event Management Class)
* Where: Leland Municipal Complex Park (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When:  Saturday, April 28, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Movie in the Park to follow at dusk)
* Fee: FREE!

Movies in the Park
* What: This year’s family movie series promises to be a summertime hit. Come watch a film under the stars in the Leland Municipal Park, just like in the good old days of drive in movies. Bring your blanket and lawn chairs. No pets please.

Leland Market
* What: Ever wonder where in Leland you can get fresh, local produce and homemade treats? Looking for a place to purchase local hand-made crafts? We have your answer with the Leland Market. This year we are offering the market to coincide with the Leland Friends of the Library monthly Book Sale. The market’s dates are as follows.
o May 12
o June 9
o July 14
o August 11
* Where: Magnolia House Lawn (485 Village Rd. at the front of the Leland Municipal Campus)
* When:  See above. Market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
* Fee: FREE! Vendors call 910-332-4823 for more information.

Happy Little Singers
* What: A FUN childhood music and movement class for children ages 9 mos. to 6 years and YOU, the parent/grandparent/caregiver. Sing, dance, play and jam on instruments all while learning basic music competence and enhancing cognitive, physical, social, emotional and language development.
* Where: Leland Classroom Annex (102 Town Hall Dr.) 
* When: Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. beginning March 15.
* Fee: $10 per class per family (includes parent and one child). $5 for each additional child. Contact Leland Parks and Rec. to register 910-332-4823. Drop ins are welcome.

How to Cut your Grocery Bill by 50% or More!
* What: Does buying groceries for your family become a financial burden each month? Would you just like to save some money? If so, come learn how to cut your grocery bill by 50% or more! In this fun and exciting workshop, you will learn the basics of couponing, where to find coupons, rules of saving in the grocery store, coupon organization, grocery store policies, stockpiling, budgeting and the use of online databases to assist with couponing. Each participant will receive a coupon guidebook and $30 worth of coupons to get started.
* Where: Leland Classroom Annex (102 Town Hall Dr.) 
* When: The second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m. beginning March 14.

Free Dump Week
* What: Brunswick County residents may bring items, except for household trash and land clearing debris, to the landfill in Bolivia free of charge. Commercial vehicles will be charged normal tipping fees. Must show proof of residency.
