Leland Parks and Recreation April 2014 Update

Spring is here and so is our need to venture out of the house and try something new. We have plenty of programs including yoga, fitness classes, children’s programs and more for you to enjoy. Leland Cultural Arts Center Construction Underway!!!
The Town of Leland held a groundbreaking for the construction of the new Leland Cultural Arts Center on March 14. Located at 1212 Magnolia Village Way, the center will be a hub of artistic and cultural activity for the Town and region. The facility is expected to open by spring 2015. Plant Giveaway Returns
In an effort to help keep our community beautiful we will be giving away free plants to Leland residents. Plan to join us April 5. See below for more information.

It is Egg Hunt Time!
This year’s annual egg hunt is going to be even bigger and better as we have some significant surprises in store for the children! Even Mr. EB is hopping with excitement. The hunt will be on Saturday, April 19 with staggered start times beginning at 10 a.m. sharp. See below for times and details.

Beginner Yoga Added Due to Demand
We have three new Yoga classes beginning the week of April 7. See below for more information.

Good, Old-Fashioned Family Fun
This year’s Movies in the Park series kicks off on May 3 with Monsters U. See the May Update for the rest of the lineup or visit our website.

Bring your Little One to Little Learners
Leland’s Little Learners, our preschool reading program, has a few spots available! See below for more details.

Upcoming Programs and Events:

Tomato Plant
Plant Giveaway
* What: Join us for our annual Plant Giveaway to get your free plants to help beautify the town and protect the environment. We will have hundreds of plants of many different species to give away. They will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.
* Where: Leland Recreation Building (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Saturday, April 5, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until all plants are gone)
* Fee: FREE for Leland residents with valid IDs! This event is brought to you with support from Leland Stormwater Services.

Egg Hunt
* What: This holiday event features egg hunts for children divided into four age groups (ages 0-2, ages 3-5, ages 6-7 and ages 8-10), refreshments, prizes and more. Bring your basket and prepare for a special visit from Mr. E.B. himself.
* Where: Leland Municipal Park (102 Town Hall Dr.) *Note the event is back at the Town Hall campus this year*
* When: April 19, 9:45 a.m. (Egg hunt starts promptly at 10 a.m. for 0-2 and will continue every 5 minutes until all groups have started).
* Fee: FREE! For children 10 and younger.

Beginners Yoga
* What: This class is an introduction to the fundamental postures of yoga as well as breath work and relaxation. We will take a slower pace to this practice and help you to find proper alignment in the postures. Everybody is welcome!
* Where: Leland Classroom Annex (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When:  Monday nights from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. starting April 7!
* Fee: $120 yoga punch card (10 classes plus one free class!) Drop-in fee is $15. Space is limited so call early to reserve your spot (910) 332-4823.

All-Levels Yoga
* What: Come and discover fun and joy in your body while giving it the gift of health and relaxation. Join certified yoga instructor Jessica Burkett in an all-levels yoga class. This is a Hatha/Vinyasa led yoga class.
* Where: Leland Classroom Annex
* When: Tuesday Nights from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. starting April 8!
* Fee: $120 yoga punch card (10 classes plus one free class!) Drop-in fee is $15. Space is limited so call early to reserve your spot (910) 332-4823.

Gentle Yoga
* What: Join certified yoga instructor Jessica Burkett in helping you find more freedom and openness in your body so you can move through life with ease and strength at any age. This is a Hatha/Vinyasa led yoga class.
* Where: Leland Classroom Annex
* When: Wednesday Mornings from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. starting April 9!
* Fee: $120 yoga punch card (10 classes plus one free class!) Drop-in fee is $15. Space is limited so call early to reserve your spot (910) 332-4823.

Total Body Conditioning I
* What: Rev up your metabolism with a challenging full-body workout combining cardio and strength training exercises using body weight, hand weights and elastic bands. There will be a big emphasis on core, balance and flexibility. This class is designed with low impact moves perfect for the beginner or novice or those needing modifications. Please bring water, an exercise mat, and a towel (‘cause you’re gonna sweat!).
* Where: Leland Municipal Park and Recreation Building (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Monday and Wednesday Nights; 5:30 p.m. – 6:20 p.m. (New 8 weeks starts April 7)
* Fee: $95 for 8 weeks. That’s under $6 a class! Call (910) 332-4823 for more information or to register.

Total Body Conditioning II
* What: This bootcamp style class in the park will challenge and test your fitness level. Cardio bursts, athletic drills, and strength training exercises will test your athletic prowess and help you achieve your fitness goals which you will be setting at the beginning of the session and tracking throughout. Please bring a can-do attitude, water, an exercise mat, and a towel.
* Where: Leland Municipal Park and Recreation Building (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Monday and Wednesday Nights; 6:30 p.m. – 7:20 p.m. (New 8 weeks starts April 7)
* Fee: $95 for 8 weeks. That’s under $6 a class! Call (910) 332-4823 for more information or to register.

Leland’s Little Learners
* What: This free program for children ages 3-5 seeks to stimulate the minds of Leland's children through story time, arts and crafts and time outside on the playground! During the program, parents or guardians must remain with their children. Space is limited, so sign up early.
* Where: Leland Classroom Annex (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Wednesday Mornings at 9:30 a.m.
* Fee: FREE!
