Leland Parks and Recreation July 2014 Update

With these temperatures, there is no doubt summer is finally here! If you’re looking for something to do with the kids, check out our events! We also have plenty of programs including yoga, fitness classes and more for you to enjoy. Kayaking Adventures Await this Summer
Join us for a great time on the water as we explore Leland’s Sturgeon and Mill creeks by kayak. The Town has partnered with Mahanaim Adventures to offer kayaking trips on July 20 and August 17. See below for more details on registration.

De-stress with Yoga
Are you feeling stressed and worn out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life?  Come join us for a relaxing yoga session and say goodbye to all those worries.  See below for more information on our classes.

BRRRRRRR, Did Someone Say FROZEN?
The most popular Disney movie in years, Frozen, comes to the municipal park on July 12 to wrap up our annual movie and concert series. Mark your calendars now and see below for details. 

CoCo LoCo/Most Wanted Wraps Up Concert Series
Coco Loco Party Band will be here July 10 to get you up out of your seats and dancing for our last concert! The second part of their show will be a performance as Most Wanted – a country band playing all the hits you love. See below for more.

CPR/AED Certification Class Returns    
If you have ever thought about becoming certified in CPR/AED then this is the time to do it.  See below for more details.

Founders’ Day Vendor Applications Available

New Rental Fee Schedule Starts July 1
The Town will institute a new facility rental fee schedule effective July 1. For more information, click here.

Upcoming Programs and Events:


Movies in the Park

* What: Join us in the park and watch a family movie under the stars. Bring a blanket, your lawnchairs, your picnic and your family, but please no pets or alcohol. Smoking is also prohibited on Town property. The final movie of the season will be Disney’s FROZEN!!!
* Where:  Leland Municipal Park (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Saturday, July 12 at Dusk. (Around 8:30 pm)
* Fee: FREE!!! Concessions will be available for purchase.

Concerts on the Coast
* What: Our annual Concerts on the Coast series wraps another great year. Join us at the Leland Municipal Park and be prepared to dance. Bring a blanket, a picnic, your lawnchairs and your family, but please no pets, open containers or smoking. The final performance of the season will be Coco Loco/Most Wanted (Variety and Country).
* Where: Leland Municipal Park Stage (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Thursday, July 10 from 6:30pm until 8pm.
* Fee: FREE!!! Trolly Stop will be on site to provide concessions for purchase.

CPR/AED Certification Class
* What: Leland Parks and Recreation is again partnering with Leland Fire and Rescue to provide the public with CPR Certification Classes.  This class will cover CPR training along with AED training.
* Where: Leland Fire and Rescue, 1004 Village Rd.
* When:  July 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. 
* Fee:  For fee information or to register call 910-332-4823.  Class space is limited; call now to reserve your spot.

Kayak Adventures
* What: Explore the natural beauty of Sturgeon and Mill creeks by kayak with this leisurely 4-mile guided paddle led by Mahanaim Adventures. You will have the opportunity to view up close the amazing wildlife of the local tidal creek environment under the watchful eye of your guide. This trip is great for beginners and those looking for an introduction to kayaking. Equipment and boats will be provided. All you need to bring is a water bottle, sun screen and bug spray.
* Where:  Sturgeon Creek Park (844 Appleton Way, Leland – From Village Rd., RT on Graham Dr., RT on Appleton Way – both are dirt roads)
* When:  Sundays 8:30 a.m.  July 20 and August 17. Tours take approximately three (3) hours.
* Fee:  $45 fee includes kayak rental, safety gear and instruction. For more information or to register, contact Leland Parks and Recreation at (910) 332-4823 or aryan@townofleland.com.

Beginners Yoga
* What: This class is an introduction to the fundamental postures of yoga as well as breath work and relaxation. We will take a slower pace to this practice and help you to find proper alignment in the postures. Everybody is welcome! 
* Where: Leland Classroom Annex (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When:  Monday nights from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
* Fee: $120 yoga punch card (10 classes plus one free class!)  Drop-in fee is $15. Space is limited so call early to reserve your spot (910) 332-4823.

Gentle Yoga
* What: Join certified yoga instructor Jessica Burkett in helping you find more freedom and openness in your body so you can move through life with ease and strength at any age. This is a Hatha/Vinyasa led yoga class.
* Where: Leland Classroom Annex (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Wednesday Mornings from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
* Fee: $120 yoga punch card (10 classes plus one free class!)  Drop-in fee is $15.  Space is limited so call early to reserve your spot (910) 332-4823.

Total Body Conditioning I
* What: Rev up your metabolism with a challenging full-body workout combining cardio and strength training exercises using body weight, hand weights and elastic bands.  There will be a big emphasis on core, balance and flexibility.  This class is designed with low impact moves perfect for the beginner or novice or those needing modifications.  Please bring water, an exercise mat, and a towel (‘cause you’re gonna sweat!).
* Where: Leland Municipal Park and Recreation Building (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Monday and Wednesday Nights; 5:30 p.m. – 6:20 p.m. *New 8 weeks start August 4!*
* Fee: $115 for 8 weeks. Call (910) 332-4823 for more information or to register. 

Total Body Conditioning II
* What: This bootcamp style class in the park will challenge and test your fitness level.  Cardio bursts, athletic drills, and strength training exercises will test your athletic prowess and help you achieve your fitness goals which you will be setting at the beginning of the session and tracking throughout.  Please bring a can-do attitude, water, an exercise mat and a towel.
* Where: Leland Municipal Park and Recreation Building (102 Town Hall Dr.)
* When: Monday and Wednesday Nights; 6:30 p.m. – 7:20 p.m.  *New 8 weeks start August 4!*
* Fee: $115 for 8 weeks. Call (910) 332-4823 for more information or to register.
