Town of Leland Launches Gateway Enhancement Project Effort will revamp appearance of US 17/74/76 Interchange
June 28, 2005
LELAND – The Town of Leland has launched a major initiative to upgrade the appearance of the busy U.S. 17/76/76 interchange. The Gateway Enhancement Project marks the next phase of the town’s efforts to properly manage its continuing explosive growth.
“Leland has emerged as one of the fastest growing municipalities in southeastern North Carolina,” said Town Manager David Hewett. “We are committed to do what it takes to properly handle this growth so that Leland continues to be a nice place to live, work, and raise a family.”
The Town of Leland's Gateway Enhancement Project is a partnership between the town, area businesses, citizens and other community stakeholders. The project, which will focus on the Village Road Commercial District and the major interchange of U.S. 17 and U.S. 74/76, is slated to include a comprehensive landscaping and streetscaping effort with natural vegetative plantings, trees, street lights and sidewalks. The town has established a Capital Reserve Fund that enables it to accept investments from citizens, private groups, businesses and civic organizations. Donations will help with the design, construction and implementation of both the Phase I and Phase II portions of the Gateway Enhancement Project.
“We are getting ahead of the curve to ensure that Leland is ready to handle the influx of new businesses and people over the next decade,” says Cameron Moore, the town’s Planning Director. “The Gateway Enhancement Project will ensure that our town continues to be an attractive place to live in the years to come.” |
