LELAND, NC -- On Saturday, April 5 the Town of Leland is holding its 2nd Annual Bicycle Fest and Tree Giveaway from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.  The Tree Giveaway will be held in the building behind the Leland Town Hall building and the Bike Fest on the recreation field behind the Leland Town Hall, which is located at 102 Town Hall Drive.  Both events are free of charge and open to the public.

The Bicycle Fest is intended to give citizens the opportunity to learn more about Leland’s bicycle routes and educate them on bicycle safety.  Attendees should bring their own bicycles to the event, which will feature stations for bike tune-ups and helmet fittings, as well as stations at which children can learn bicycle safety tips.  Prizes will also be awarded during the event.  The 2nd annual “Leland Cruise”, a 6-12 mile bike route through Leland, will begin at 11 a.m. and will be escorted by the Leland Police Department.  Participants must bring their own bicycles, wear a helmet and be at least 12 years of age to ride.

The tree giveaway, at which 20 different species of saplings will be given away to citizens, is intended to provide residents with an opportunity to do their part to beautify the Town of Leland and protect the environment.  The event precedes Earth Day, which falls on April 22.  Saplings will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis.  Attendees will have the opportunity to win a number of free gifts, including a rain barrel.  The tree giveaway is sponsored by the Town of Leland’s Stormwater Management Division.

Sponsors of this year’s Bike Fest and Tree Giveaway are: Cape Fear Cyclists, NC Department of Transportation, Fitwize 4 Kids, Two Wheeler Dealer, Boseman’s Sporting Goods, Coastal Bicycles, North Brunswick Lions Club, Cape Fear Healthy Carolinians of Brunswick and New Hanover Counties and Bike Cycles.
