Town of Leland names Bill Farris Town Manager

LELAND, N.C. – The Town of Leland has tapped William B. (Bill) Farris as its new town manager. Farris, who has served as Leland’s interim town manager since May, was officially selected at the Town Council meeting on Thursday, October 19. He previously served ten years as city manager of Wilmington and has worked in planning and government since 1972. “Bill Farris is a seasoned, experienced municipal manager,” says Leland Mayor Walter Futch. “His extensive background in municipal leadership will be invaluable as our town seeks to properly direct its unprecedented growth in the years to come. I am excited that he is on our team.” William B. (Bill) Farris is a 1966 graduate of Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA. He earned a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1972. Mr. Farris is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Planners and the American Planning Association. He served as City Manager for Wilmington from 1983 through 1993. Over the past 13 years Mr. Farris has consulted with a wide range of municipalities and other government entities throughout North Carolina. He has served as interim manager for the City of Asheville, the Town of Lillington, the City of Whiteville, the Town of Hope Mills and the Town of Wrightsville Beach.
