From the Brunswick County Fire Marshal:

Due to a lack of rain and the resulting dry, hazardous burning conditions, Brunswick County Fire Marshal Scott Garner has asked that citizens refrain from outdoor burning until further notice.  The countywide burning ban prohibits open burning within 100 feet of occupied dwellings.

This burning ban is being enacted with the hope of preventing large fires such as those the area has experienced in the past week.  Although this ban does not apply to recreational fires such as charcoal or propane grilling, citizens are urged to be extremely cautious with any type of outdoor fire.  Citizens are also advised to be cautious when smoking outdoors, and to dispose of cigarettes in the proper manner.

Although the National Weather Service is predicting thunderstorms for tomorrow afternoon, they are not forecasting any significant rainfall.  This weekend is expected to be windy and dry, and the fire danger will remain high.
