Leland Police Department, Citizens for JusticeCo-sponsoring Community Empowerment Festival June 23
June 20, 2007 The Leland Police Department and the Justice for Citizens group are co-sponsoring an inaugural Community Empowerment Festival on Saturday, June 23 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m at the Leland Town Hall. “The Community Empowerment Festival provides a fun, family-friendly environment for families to come out, enjoy the day and learn more about invaluable resources that make our community a safer place,” says Corporal Sherry Lewis of the Leland Police Department. Hot dogs, pizza and snack foods will be on sale and vehicles from the Sun Coast Cruisers will be on display during the event. The festival will also feature blow-up rides for children, a performance by the Foss Singers and a live remote radio broadcast by Brian White from station 98.7 WILL. Area human services agencies will be on hand to provide information about resources available to fight sexual assault, domestic violence, gang activity, Internet predators, identification theft, child and elder abuse and substance abuse. Proceeds from this event will benefit the North Carolina Victims Assistance Network and an annual candlelight vigil ceremony held by Justice for Citizens. Justice for Citizens, a group comprised of parents of children who were murdered, offers help and advice for other families that have lost loved ones in this way. The group helps families navigate legal proceedings and the cope with the grief process. All advocates are unpaid and all monies raised by Justice for Citizens goes to help victim’s families with counseling, hotel accommodations during trial as well as other unanticipated fees. For more information on the Community Empowerment Festival or on the Town of Leland, please call (910) 371-1100 or visit www.townofleland.com.
