Entrance to Leland Becomes More Welcoming

LELAND – Town leaders are proud of what's happening in Leland, and they want people to know it the second they set foot in their community. 

Tuesday they broke ground on a "Welcome to Leland" sign. The foundation is going in now and the sign itself should be up soon. 

Then the town is planning to beautify the bypass entrance to Leland with flowers and trees. 

The final phase of the project is to turn Village Road into five lanes to help ease traffic headaches. 

"It's very gratifying, because I've seen Leland from it's infancy to what's happening today. I'm excited for the people of Leland, and the people along with me that have grown up here. Now we can really see it be something of beauty," says Mayor Franky Thomas. 

Thomas says most of the money for the project is coming from business owners and residents.
