LELAND – The Town of Leland will open a new multi-use path, dubbed “The Gateway Trail,” on Saturday April 21.  Citizens will be able to use the path for bicycling, rollerblading and walking.  The day’s activities will begin at 10:00 a.m. with ribbon cutting at the trail’s entrance on the town hall grounds.  Additionally, more than 4,000 trees representing 22 species will be given away to the public during the morning’s activities (limit four per family).  The tree giveaway is being organized by the town’s Development Services Department.

The Gateway Trail stretches for 0.6 miles and runs from Village Road in front of town hall, down Town Hall Drive, down Old Fayetteville Road on the back side of the town hall campus, then onto Perry Avenue and connects back to Village Road.  The trail, which was developed by the town’s Public Works and Parks and Recreation Departments and is partially funded by the N.C. Department of Transportation, is open to the public.

“The opening of the Gateway Trail represents another milestone in our efforts to maintain Leland’s small-town character and improve our quality of life as we grow,” says Leland Mayor Walter Futch.  “We invite the citizens of Leland to join us on April 21 as we celebrate the opening of our new multi-use path.
