LELAND, N.C. – The Town of Leland is participating in the 24th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7.  National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event designed to strengthen neighborhoods by forging solid partnerships between the police and members of the community.  Over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world will participate in National Night Out.

“National Night Out is a wonderful opportunity for citizens of Leland to come together as a community and raise awareness of crime and drug prevention,” says Police Chief Osey Sanders.  “We hope that everyone will come out and embrace this night of empowerment for Leland.”

Leland’s National Night Out event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the town’s pavilion.  The Leland police department will be offering citizens crime prevention literature, identification kits for children, K-9 demonstrations as well as multiple displays and activities.  Brian White, disc jockey from Lite 98.7 FM, will be broadcasting live from the event and the event will include children’s rides and a raffle for prizes.  NNO is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and is co-sponsored locally with the Leland Police Department and Wal-Mart of Leland.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs, and send a message to criminals that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.  For more information, visit www.nationalnightout.org
