LELAND –The Leland Police Department is featured in the Spring 2007 issue of “Centerline,” a newsletter published by the N.C. Department of Transportation Governor’s Highway Safety Program.  The newsletter applauds the Leland Police Department for its proactive approach to meeting the increasing traffic concerns that accompany the North Brunswick region’s rapid growth.

“The Governor’s Highway Safety Program has helped us get ahead of the curve in our efforts to keep our streets safe and family-friendly,” said Osey Sanders, Leland’s Chief of Police.  “As Leland continues to grow in the years to come, our ongoing work with the Governor’s Highway Safety Program will enhance our ability to meet the traffic challenges associated with our growth.”

According to the National Census Bureau, Brunswick County ranked as the 14th fastest growing county in the nation between June 2005 and June 2006.  The Town of Leland, which has grown from approximately 2,000 residents in 2000 to approximately 8,000 today, has emerged as the centerpiece of the region’s growth.

The Leland Police Department joined the Governor’s Highway Safety Program in 2004, receiving grant money that has enabled them to meet the needs of a rapidly increasing population.  For more information on the Town of Leland, please visit www.townofleland.com.
