The Public Works Department’s Stormwater Management Division administers the Town of Leland's Stormwater Management Program. Stormwater management is a state and federally mandated program requiring the Town to reduce pollution in Leland's waterways.   This is done through a variety of focus areas which include public education & outreach, public involvement, illicit discharge detection and prevention, construction site runoff, post construction best management practices, and pollution prevention.

In Leland, runoff flows through a complex, interconnected system of pipes, ditches, creeks and other natural and man-made features before finally making it's way to the Cape Fear and Brunswick Rivers.  The quality of our local waters is directly related to land uses and other actions on land.  IT IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP OUR WATERS CLEAN!!!
