EAGLE'S ISLAND

The Town of Leland and the New Hanover County Soil and Water Conservation District have formed a collaborative effort to preserve Eagle's Island.  So far the two groups have acquired over 270 acres of Eagles Island.  This leaves approximately 1123 acres that are not under the protection of the groups.

While the main goal for the island is preservation of wetland habitat, the Town also wishes to use the area for ecotourism.  Wetlands are a vital resource in our area and have drastic impacts on our water quality.  With development in the area on the rise, preservation of this important natural habitat is becoming even more important.

The Town is currently planning how to best use the island.  While there are many potential uses, ecotourism is the main focus for the area.  Paddle Trails are likely to be the major use.
