COVID-19 Update - 4/2/20 6:00pm
Effective Monday, April 6, 2020, Leland Planning and Inspections Department will temporarily no longer be accepting paper applications for residential building and trade permits, as a way to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Applications and subsequent documents should instead be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org . Staff will process the application as customary and notify applicants by email when the permit is ready and payment is due. Permit fee payments can be paid online through the Town’s website or a check can be left in the payment box at Leland Town Hall. Leland system development fee payments should continue to be paid by mailing or dropping off a check. If dropping off payment by check, please use an envelope labelled as applicable with the permit number, property address, and your contact information (email/phone). There are envelopes for use inside the main entrance to Town Hall.
Once payment has been processed, Staff will email the building permit card and other information typically provided with a permit to the applicant, and they will not need to visit Town Hall to pick anything up.
Making this temporary process change is an effort to minimize travel and reduce paperwork travelling between people and places to help combat the spread of COVID-19. We are committed to our role in helping you through the permitting and inspections process during this time and in return ask that you please remind site workers to maintain at least a 6’ distance from inspectors on the site. We also ask that inspections for change outs, sunrooms, and similar projects in occupied houses be performed by live remote inspection. Permits for these types of projects will include more information about live remote inspections.
COVID-19 Update - 3/17/20 5:00pm
Town of Leland Permitting and Inspections will continue; however, the department is not open to the public for pick up and drop off of permits, applications, etc. Containers and clear instructions for picking up or dropping off documents, applications, etc. are inside the main Town Hall entrance.
US Highway 74 Vision Survey
In 2015, the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) identified a network of key multimodal transportation corridors called Strategic Transportation Corridors (STC) to support smart planning, help set long-term investment decisions, and ensure that North Carolina’s economic prosperity goals are achieved.
One of the corridors is U.S. 74 from I-26 in Polk County to U.S. 117 in Wilmington.
As part of NC DOT's master plan for this corridor, a brief survey was created to better understand your vision and ideas for preservation and improvements to U.S. 74.
The survey is available through June 6, 2020.
Leland's Department of Planning and Building Inspections facilitates development within the Town of Leland, from project inception to completion.
Planning staff provide professional and technical guidance in all matters related to existing and future land use, including zoning, flood damage prevention, land use code compliance, and long-range planning.
Code Enforcement staff investigate and work to resolve zoning, nuisance, and minimum housing violations.
Building Inspections staff ensure public safety by administering compliance with applicable building codes and design requirements.
Permitting staff are responsible for receiving and processing applications for building permits, issuing permits, and scheduling inspections.
