Applying for Positions
Click on the Career Opportunities button on the Town of Leland website. On the Career Search tab, you can search all current open positions available with the Town of Leland including law enforcement positions.
To apply for an open position that you are interested in and meet the required qualifications, click on the Apply Now button. You will need to login using an email address, Facebook or you can sign in with LinkedIn.
Yes. You may apply for each advertised position for which you have an interest and meet the required qualifications.
Driver’s license information (if applicable), education information, types of certifications, work experience, and references. You have the option to submit a cover letter and resume via upload, copy/paste, or typing it in manually.
Public libraries have computers for public use.
Our applicant tracking system sends you an automatic email message that tells you we have received your information. Your information remains in our applicant tracking database for two years.
Yes. Your online application will remain active for a period of six (6) months. If the same position is advertised in the future, it is not necessary to reapply unless it has been more than six (6) months since your initial application was received.
Law Enforcement Positions
Yes. To meet the minimum requirements for a sworn law enforcement position, you must have successfully completed BLET.

To apply for an open position that you are interested in and meet the required qualifications, click on the Apply Now button and complete the Town of Leland online application.
Yes. You will be notified via the email address supplied when applying for a position. Email notifications will be sent at each stage of the application process. It is not necessary to call the Human Resources department to follow up on the status of your application. You may check the status of your application at any time by returning to the Career Opportunities page and clicking on the Returning Candidates tab.
Applications that have been received are reviewed by the Human Resources Director. The candidates that best meet the qualifications of the position are routed to the hiring manager. The hiring manager reviews the applications and selects which candidates to schedule for an interview.
If you are selected, then the Human Resources department will be in direct contact with you to schedule you for the interview. You will also receive an email notifying you that you have been selected for an interview and inviting you to contact the Human Resources department.
If you live out of state or more than 3-4 hours away, then you will be scheduled for a phone interview with the hiring manager. If the phone interview goes well, you may be invited for an onsite interview. Local candidates that are selected for an interview will be invited for an onsite interview.
Members usually include the Human Resources Director, the hiring manager, and possibly other team members.
It is difficult to put a timeframe on how long the process will take. You may check the status of your application at any time by visiting the Career Opportunities page and clicking on the Returning Candidates tab. If you are not selected once a final decision has been made, then you will be notified via the email you submitted during the application process.
Yes. Part of the terms and conditions of employment is satisfactory results of a pre-employment drug screen. The pre-employment drug screen is required after a Conditional Offer of Employment has been extended to the candidate and prior to the candidate's first day of work.
