The Town of Leland Fire/Rescue Department was recently honored for its commitment to cooperation and service to our community.
Last week, Belville Mayor Mike Allen signed a resolution expressing that town's thanks to the Leland Fire/Rescue's disaster assistance following Hurricane Isaias, which hit the Cape Fear region in early August.
During the hurricane, a tornado touched down in Belville, causing "significant and widespread damage," according to the Belville resolution. In response, Leland Fire/Rescue staff immediately responded with first aid and equipment to help check on Belville residents and clear roads in the Highland Shores and Olde Towne neighborhoods that had been blocked by downed trees and other storm debris.
"The Town of Belville is deeply grateful and appreciative for this showing of community support and all the volunteers and staff [that] worked to provide disaster relief, check on our residents, and help our community recover from the storm....," the resolution reads.
Chris Langlois, the Town of Leland's new Fire Chief, and Dep. Chief Ronnie Hayes accepted the recognition on behalf of Leland Fire/Rescue during a Belville Board of Commissioners meeting on August 24.
While Chief Langlois began work as Leland Fire Chief after Hurricane Isaias, he understands the value of working together "as one team with one purpose" during any emergency or disaster.
That includes public safety agencies, local, state and federal government, and non-governmental agencies, as well as the public in general. We rely on each other to take care of each other," Langlois said. "Leland Fire/Rescue is committed to that concept, and to being a part of a team that serves those who need us during any emergency, large or small. I’m proud to be a part of this team, and to carry that service forward into the future."
