Leland Seeking Volunteers to Serve on Boards & Committees

The Town of Leland has openings on the Parks and Recreation Board, Economic Development Committee and Board of Adjustment. See below for descriptions.

Parks and Recreation Board

Three members are needed for three-year terms ending June 2023. All members must reside in the Town of Leland. The Leland Parks and Recreation Board advises and assists Town Council in the development of parks and recreation plans and recreational activities. The board consists of seven  members and meets at 6 p.m. on the last Wednesday of every other month.

Economic Development Committee

Four members are needed for two-year terms – a maximum of two from the greater Wilmington region and a minimum of two who live or work in the Town of Leland – ending June 2022. The Leland Economic Development Committee was created to establish and oversee activities of the Town’s economic development program and assist the Town Council in implementing economic development initiatives in Leland. The committee consists of seven members and meets at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday of every other month. 

Board of Adjustment

The Town has openings on the Board of Adjustment for terms ending June 30, 2023. The board consists of five members and two alternates and meets on an as-needed basis. Board of Adjustment members are citizen volunteers appointed by Town Council to hold quasi-judicial public hearings to consider requests for variances from land use regulations where special conditions would create unnecessary hardships. The board also hears appeals of determinations made by staff in interpreting and enforcing land use regulations.
