Mayor Urges Residents to Prepare for Potential Storm Impacts
Town of Leland officials and staff are continuing to closely monitor the projected path of Hurricane Dorian, which could bring severe weather to the southeast coast later this week.
Ahead of the storm, Leland Mayor Brenda Bozeman has released the following statement to Town residents:
The Town of Leland is committed to the safety and welfare of all its citizens. As we continue to watch Dorian as it potentially moves toward the Carolinas and Georgia, I encourage all residents to be ready for any potential impact.
As you likely already know, the time to prepare for a hurricane is not when a hurricane is at your doorstep. But if you don’t already have a plan in place, now is the time to get started. Discuss with your loved ones your plan of action for evacuation and make sure you stock up on emergency supplies, such as batteries, water and non-perishable food items. A good rule of thumb is to stock up on enough necessities to last three to five days.
That, of course, includes any necessary prescription medications. If you or a friend or family member have special medical needs, Brunswick County Emergency Services has created a registry for anyone who may require special assistance during a natural disaster or other emergency. You can sign up quickly and easily on the County’s website.
And don’t forget your four-legged friends! Remember - some disaster evacuation centers do not allow animals, so decide now where you will take your pets if you need to leave the area.
We will continue to provide updates and helpful information to our citizens on the Town of Leland’s website and social media channels. I urge residents to be prepared and remain vigilant so we will all stay safe should the storm hit our Town!
