Ongoing Drought Conditions Prompt Leland Burn Ban

The Town of Leland has issued a burn ban effective 6 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29. The ban will remain in place within Town limits until further notice.

According to the National Weather Service Office in Wilmington, an extreme heat index of 98 to 103 degrees is predicted in our area for the remainder of the week. Apparent temperatures of that level can contribute to the ongoing drought conditions, which are not favorable for open burning.

Leland Deputy Fire Chief Ronnie Hayes reminds citizens that all burning within 100 feet of any structure is banned within the Town.

Anyone with questions about the burn ban should contact the Town of Leland Fire/Rescue Department, (910) 371-2727.
