Town of Leland Seeking to Fill Several Seats on Boards and Committees
The Town of Leland will have openings on the following Boards/Committees as of June 30, 2018. See below for descriptions of each. Applications will be accepted until May 31, 2018 and can be accesses at: https://townofleland.civicweb.net/Portal/CitizenEngagement.aspx
Economic Development Committee
A total of five (5) members are needed: four (4) for two year terms (2 members from the greater Wilmington region and 2 members living or working in the Town of Leland), and one (1) member is needed to fill an unfinished term for a year (from the greater Wilmington region). The Leland Economic Development Committee was created to establish and oversee activities of the Town’s economic development program and assist the Town Council in implementing economic development initiatives in Leland. The committee consists of seven (7) members and meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Four (4) members needed for three year terms (all members must reside in the Town of Leland). The Leland Planning Board is charged with recommending to the Town Council the boundaries of the various zoning districts and appropriate regulations to be enforced therein and any proposed amendments thereto. It keeps informed of the best practices in effect in Town planning and zoning. The Board consists of seven (7) members and meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
Parks and Recreation Board
Four (4) members for three year terms (all members must reside in the Town of Leland). The purpose of the Leland Parks and Recreation Board is to advise and assist the Town Council in the development of parks and recreation plans and recreational activities. The board consists of seven (7) members and meets the last Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Three (3) members needed for two year terms (all members must reside in the Town of Leland). The Leland Infrastructure Committee was created to function as a review and advisory committee with the Leland staff to make recommendations to Town Council on amending the Town of Leland regulations governing maintenance, equipment, roadway conditions and improvements, and operation of Leland’s water, sewer, and storm water systems as they pertain to safety, efficiency, and compliance with all state requirements. The committee consists of five (5) members and meets the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00 a.m.
Leland Tourism Development Authority (LTDA)
One (1) member for a two year term. The Authority's objective is to promote, solicit and encourage travel and tourism to the Town of Leland. The LTDA has nine (9) members and meets the third Wednesday of the month at 4:00 p.m.
