I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays with friends and family and are now setting their sights on 2020! I am certainly looking forward to seeing what the new year has in store for Leland… and I’m not the only one.
Even though there’s still a chill in the air, the Parks and Recreation Department is thinking spring as staff gears up for the next installment of the Town’s spring concert series, as well as the annual Easter egg hunt (including one just for adults!) and other fun, family-friendly events and activities. And Parks and Rec is continuing to focus on some exciting potential upgrades and additions to our parks and outdoor facilities.
My fellow Council members and I will soon begin planning the 2020-21 Fiscal Year budget for the Town. It’s a big undertaking, of course, and one we all take very seriously. And careful consideration obviously takes time, which is why we begin the process so early each year.
But it takes something else – public input.
As Town Council and staff take a look at projects and priorities in this coming year, I encourage all citizens to make their questions, concerns and ideas heard. Beyond the budget, I hope you'll come out to our meetings to learn about what’s going on in the Town and get to know those who represent you. You can always access our meeting dates and agendas on the Town website. Or look for the schedule and agenda link listed below in the newsletter.
It’s so important to us as Council members to know what really matters to you. Because, after all, you are who we’re here for!
So, make it your New Year’s Resolution to get and stay involved in some way, whether it be by speaking during the public comment portion of a Council meeting, attending a Parks and Recreation Board presentation on proposed park projects, reading the latest news on the Town’s website or simply sharing the sign-up information for this newsletter with a new resident or longtime neighbor.
Thanks, and can’t wait to see you in 2020!
--- Mayor Brenda Bozeman
