DStart This Summer With Some Family Fun
and a Focus on Safety
June is a busy time at Leland Town Hall with new board and committee member appointments to the Economic Development Committee, Planning Board, Parks and Recreation Board, Infrastructure Committee, and the Leland Tourism Development Authority. We want to thank those who have served the Town of Leland on boards and committees and welcome the new members who will be appointed later this month.
The Town of Leland extends a special welcome to WWAY, who officially began broadcasting from their brand new studio here. We are thrilled to have this local institution now call Leland home. Look for announcements about their grand opening events and public studio tours coming later this month.
Our Leland Police Department is increasing the safety of Leland residents with a new crime mapping tool on the Town of Leland website. We would also like to extend a special congratulations to Detective Felicia McCabe, who recently earned her Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate after many years and over 500 hours of training. We are so proud of Detective McCabe and are truly grateful that she is here to help the citizens of Leland.
As summer heats up, so does the fun! There might still be space available for your children ages 6 to 12 at Camp Create! This is a creative day camp to encourage self-expression through enriching daily activities. Run by Leland Parks and Recreation and the Leland Cultural Arts Center, it is a program we look forward to each year, and have many repeat campers!
Celebrate the end of the school year with free family-friendly movies in the park, and beat the heat at one of the great concerts we have scheduled. We think you’re really going to enjoy the June LCAC Concert Series artist, Jeanne Jolly, so get your tickets soon.

Q: Do I need an electrical permit to put up smoke/fire detectors or sprinklers?
A: If you are putting smoke/fire detectors in your home, you do not need a permit unless you are changing the home's circuitry. If you are putting sprinklers in your home, you will actually need a plumbing permit. The contractor/company you hire to install should obtain that permit as part of their contract.
All installations of smoke/fire detectors and/or sprinklers in a commercial/business facility of any type need to be permitted.
For further information on smoke/fire detectors or sprinkler systems, call the Leland Fire Department at 910-371-2727.
