As hot and humid as it has been lately, it's hard to believe summer is at an end!
While the warmer weather likes to linger in our region, the forecast for next week confirms that fall is almost here.
One thing I love about Leland (there are so many things I love!) is that every season brings something to look forward to and new things to do and try. Fall is especially exciting to me because the cooler temperatures bring more of our residents out of their houses to enjoy the outdoors... together.
I am so excited for the return of our Movies in the Park series, which is a great (and free) option for families, couples’ date nights, and meeting new folks. Coming up on October 19. we'll be screening the recent live-action remake of the classic, "Aladdin" at Leland Municipal Park. Bring your magic carpet!
Most of us remember field day from elementary school... how about revisiting your younger days by joining in for the fun at our Adult Field Day on October. 12. Put a team together and see how well you still play kickball! The event will feature a host of other traditional field day competitions, as well, including three-legged races and even dodgeball.
One of my favorite pastimes is listening to live music out under the stars, so I can't wait to see The Imitations on October 24. There's a reason The Imitations are known as THE party band in this region - their mix of beach music, good ol' rock n' roll and soul bring out crowds of all ages and get those feet moving! I hope you'll put on your dancing shoes and join me at Municipal Park for this free concert.
Of course, I can't forget to mention Halloween. I always love our Trunk or Treat event, held this year on October 26 at Municipal Park, because it truly brings our community together. It's heartwarming to see our local businesses and organizations handing out candy to the little ones in a safe environment.
But costumes and candy aren't just for kids, you know! The Leland Cultural Arts Center is giving the grown-ups a chance to dress up at their Boo Ball on October 25. There will be a costume contest with prizes, plenty of refreshments and music from deejay Dutch Hawk.
There's so much going on that I can't list it all here, so I hope you'll read about more fall festivities in the newsletter below.
