Programs & Events

The Town of Leland offers a variety of recreation programs for youth and adults that encourage positive leisure lifestyles. Recreation programs provide opportunities for socialization, personal growth, physical activity and character building. The Parks and Recreation Department is always looking to expand the services it provides so that it remains responsive to the community and on the cutting edge of recreation trends. Recreation in a Box

We have created Recreation in a Box to encourage our community to be engaged, creative and active!

There will be two boxes available - one filled with art and movement activities and the other filled with a wider variety of activities, ranging from nature- and science-based activities to fitness and movement activities. Each box will provide 8+ activity descriptions, as well as additional activities to help utilize leftover supplies. 

Ages: 6 years+ (recommended but not limited to 6-13 year olds)

Fee: $25/Box (Delivery, Pick-up, and Shipping (extra fee) options available)

Kids Run Leland

Available June 8, 2020

Based on the Road Runners' Club of America's Kids Run the Nation curriculum, this program will be completely online. Each week, videos will be uploaded with new lessons on running technique, nutrition, goal setting, and more, accompanied by workouts that will become more difficult each week. Two levels of workouts will be available each week; Level one for beginners and level two for those who are already active. A certified coach will be available throughout the week to answer questions by email or video. All of these workouts can be completed at home, in your neighborhood, or in your local park. Please remember to observe the CDC's social distancing guidelines when running in public.

Ages: 8 years+

Fee: $10/family



Kayak Adventures

Shark Tooth Island

Sunday, July 26; 8:30 AM

Location: River Road Park, Wilmington

Explore the Cape Fear River and its islands where you can hunt for fossils and prehistoric sharks’ teeth on this easy and enjoyable trip!

Fee: $45; Registration is full.


Holly Shelter Creek

Sunday, August 9; 8:30 AM

Location: Burgaw, NC

This area of nearby Onslow and Pender Counties provides a beautiful backdrop for our morning paddle down four and a half miles of Holly Shelter Creek including a small swamp. Surrounded by native cypress, holly, and oaks, and perhaps offering a glimpse of wildlife up close, this trip promises to be a unique and intimate experience.

Disc Golf 101 

Monday, August 17; 7 PM

Founders Park (113 Town Hall Drive)

Learn how to play disc golf on our local course! Participants will get an introduction to the sport, great for kids and beginners!
