Leland 2045 Land Use Plan Certified Under State Coastal Area Management Act

Leland 2045 Land Use Plan Certified Under State Coastal Area Management Act

The Town of Leland is proud to announce that the Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) has certified Leland 2045 under the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA). This certification reinforces the Town’s ongoing commitment to protect natural resources such as greenways, waterways, and environmentally sensitive areas, while also shaping responsible growth.

To meet certification requirements, the Town completed the Leland 2045 Addendum, which incorporated updated socioeconomic data and revised policies related to development in environmentally sensitive areas.

With the certification in place, the N.C. Division of Coastal Management must evaluate projects requiring a CAMA major or general permit for consistency with Leland 2045. The Town can also provide stronger guidance for development projects and broader policy decisions, such as zoning regulations and public investment strategies.

While municipalities aren't required to certify land use plans, Leland did so to help guide future development in line with its environmentally conscious vision.
