The agency is comprised of more than 40 sworn officers and four non-sworn employees. We serve a population of more than 23,000 residents within a 20 mile area in beautiful southeastern North Carolina. Leland is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the state and is perfectly situated between New Hanover County and Brunswick County beaches. 

Candidates will undergo a hiring process that includes panel interviews, a thorough background investigation, a psychological evaluation, and a drug screen. Applicants must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or GED and have successfully completed Basic Law Enforcement Training. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is also required.

Cadet Program

The Leland Police Department will periodically seek highly motivated and exceptionally qualified applicants to be part of our Cadet Program. The candidate will be hired as a Town employee and paid while they attend Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET). Upon successful completion of BLET, the candidate will transition over to a full-time sworn law enforcement position.
