Leland to Host Community Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day Celebration

The Town of Leland invites the community to attend its Earth Day Celebration on April 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, located at 1212 Magnolia Village Way.

This family-friendly event offers an opportunity to learn about sustainable practices and ways to support the ecosystems that make Leland unique. Attendees can learn about the benefits of seed starting and take home a four-cell starter filled with native flower, herb, or vegetable seeds that help support local pollinators.

Carolina Green Clothing Recyclers will be on site to collect gently used clothing and shoes for redistribution to local nonprofits, helping extend the life of usable items while reducing landfill waste. Community organizations, including We Live Here and the Leland Area Garden Club, will also be present to share information about local initiatives and volunteer opportunities.

The evening will conclude with a lecture from Matt Collogan of the North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension from 6 to 7:30 p.m., focusing on the history and future of Eagles Island. The presentation will explore the island’s legacy of rice cultivation and shipbuilding, as well as the ecological significance that continues to shape the region today.
