The Town of Leland continues to prioritize transparency and accountability through the development of its Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). As part of this effort, the Town is consolidating development regulations currently spread across multiple sections of the Code of Ordinances into a single, streamlined chapter. This approach will make the ordinance easier to navigate, understand, and update as needed.
Each month, the Planning Board and Town Council are presented with a new draft article while also providing feedback on the article introduced the previous month. This structured, ongoing review process is designed to maintain steady progress and promote transparency.
Once all sections of the UDO have been drafted, the Planning Board will conduct a final review and submit its recommendation to Town Council.
This work represents an important step for the Town as it continues to grow. By modernizing and consolidating these regulations, the UDO will help ensure local standards remain current while reducing confusion for residents, property owners, and developers.
The first draft article was presented to the Planning Board in February and Town Council in March. Additional draft articles will be considered in the months ahead with completion of the UDO expected Spring 2027.
