The Town of Leland is seeking community-minded residents to serve on the Economic Development Committee and Planning Board. These volunteer opportunities allow residents to play an active role in shaping the Town’s growth, development, and future. The deadline for applications is Friday, Feb. 6 at 5 p.m. Information about each advisory group and how to apply is below.
Economic Development Committee
The Economic Development Committee establishes and oversees the Town’s economic development program and advises the Town Council on initiatives that support sustainable economic growth. The Committee helps guide efforts to attract and retain businesses, advance strategic priorities, and foster a strong local economy. The committee consists of seven members and meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Committee members serve two-year terms. There is currently one vacancy for a term ending June 30, 2026.
Planning Board
The Planning Board reviews and makes recommendations to the Town Council on planning and land-use policies and regulations, including amendments to the zoning map and the Town’s code of ordinances. The Board also advises Town Council and staff on best practices to support the Town’s adopted planning goals and long-range development objectives. The Board consists of seven members and meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. Board members serve three-year terms. There is currently one vacancy for a term ending June 30, 2027.

The Town Council will review eligible applications, conduct interviews, and vote on appointments. Once vacancies are filled, the Town Clerk’s Office will notify applicants of their application status and assist appointed members with onboarding.
