The Town of Leland is excited to begin construction on its new roadway resurfacing program, a long-term initiative that follows a 20-year lifecycle to resurface up to 5% of Town roadways each year. The work, expected to continue for several months, is designed to ensure safe and accessible travel.

Construction began this week on Grandiflora Drive near Kobus Court in Magnolia Greens. Work will extend toward Lanvale Road and progress through Wyland Court, Stanfield Court, Greymoss Lane, Pine Harvest Drive, Parkmore Court, Alba Lane, Tommy Jacobs Drive, Sunburst Way, Carolina Avenue, Westport Drive, Eric Court, Potomac Court, and Avebury Court. In total, about five miles of Town-owned roadways will be resurfaced this year.

Work is expected to take place Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., through the fall. Residents should expect some delays and are encouraged to use caution when traveling through construction zones.

The resurfacing program was approved by Town Council as part of the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget. In 2024, the Town selected an engineering firm to survey and design the roadways based on the 2023 Street Pavement Condition and Pavement Marking Condition Assessment. Following the acceptance of the plans in 2025, Town Council awarded a $1.76 million construction contract that includes milling, full-depth patching where needed, asphalt overlay, new pavement markings, and installation of new street signs.

As part of the fiscal year 2025-2026 budget, the Town is preparing for the next round of road resurfacing scheduled to begin next year. An engineering firm has been selected, and survey and design is already underway.
