Town of Leland Issues Town-wide Burn Ban

Town of Leland Burn Ban

A Town-wide burn ban has been issued by the Town of Leland, effective Monday, March 30 at 12 p.m. until further notice.

The Town-wide ban prohibits all burning within 100 feet of an occupied structure within Town limits. Due to Brunswick County’s burn ban, the same restrictions apply to unincorporated areas of the County within the Leland Fire District. Additionally, all burn permits issued by the North Carolina Forest Service have been canceled due to a statewide burn ban.

The N.C. Forest Service has classified the fire danger index for the region as “high,” indicating an increased risk of wildfires.

The Town-wide burn ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. The Town of Leland will announce any updates, including when the burn ban is lifted, through its website and social media channels.

For questions about the Town-wide burn ban, please contact the Leland Fire Department at (910) 371-2727.

The permanent ban on open burning for land clearing purposes within the Town limits remains in effect and is separate from this temporary ban. Learn more about the ordinance.
