UPDATE: July 31, 2025

The Town of Leland burn ban will be lifted at noon on Thursday, July 31. The burn ban issued by Brunswick County remains in effect.

The Town issued the burn ban on June 30 due to unfavorable weather conditions for open burning.

Fire officials urge residents to continue burning responsibly. Always check for restrictions before burning, monitor weather conditions, and never leave a debris fire unattended. Burn permits are available from authorized permitting agents or online through the NC Forest Service.

A burn ban has been issued by the Town of Leland and Brunswick County, effective Monday, June 30 at 5 p.m. until further notice.

The ban prohibits all burning within 100 feet of an occupied structure within Town limits. Due to Brunswick County’s burn ban, the same restrictions apply to unincorporated areas of the county within the Leland Fire District. The ban does not apply to any open burning permits issued by the North Carolina Forest Service or permitted fireworks displays.

Weather forecast models indicate that current and upcoming conditions are not favorable for open burning. According to the U.S. National Weather Service Forecast Office in Wilmington, Leland is experiencing high temperatures, with heat index values approaching 100 degrees.

Given these conditions, the Town strongly advises against the use of personal fireworks while the burn ban is in effect. Residents are instead encouraged to attend professional fireworks displays. Learn more about displays and fireworks safety tips.

The burn ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. The Town of Leland will announce any updates, including when the burn ban is lifted, through its website and social media channels.
