Town of Leland Lifts Burn Ban

UPDATE: Oct. 27, 2025

The Town of Leland burn ban will be lifted at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 27.

The Town issued the burn ban on Oct. 24 due to potentially unfavorable weather conditions for open burning.

Fire officials urge residents to continue burning responsibly. Always check for restrictions before burning, monitor weather conditions, and never leave a debris fire unattended. Burn permits are available from authorized permitting agents or online through the NC Forest Service.

A burn ban has been issued by the Town of Leland, effective Friday, Oct. 24 at 12 p.m. until further notice.

The ban prohibits all burning within 100 feet of an occupied structure within Town limits. Due to Brunswick County’s burn ban, the same restrictions apply to unincorporated areas of the County within the Leland Fire District. The ban does not apply to any open burning permits issued by the North Carolina Forest Service or permitted fireworks displays.

All open burning of natural vegetation outside 100 feet of an occupied structure requires a permit from the North Carolina Forest Service. In addition, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality may require additional permits for certain types and locations of burning.

This precaution is necessary for Leland and nearby areas, as wind and fire danger risks are expected to increase heading into the weekend. The N.C. Forest Service has classified the fire danger index for the region as “high,” indicating an increased risk of wildfires.

The burn ban will remain in effect until conditions improve. The Town of Leland will announce any updates, including when the burn ban is lifted, through its website and social media channels.

For questions about the burn ban, please contact the Leland Fire/Rescue Department at (910) 371-2727.
