The Town of Leland is reminding drivers to keep fire lanes clear at all times following recent updates to fire lane markings and signage at businesses throughout Leland. The Leland Police Department will begin issuing citations to vehicles parked or occupied idling in marked fire lanes to maintain unobstructed access for emergency responders. Violators will be subject to Leland civil citations of $25 and/or state citations that include cost of court.
Over the past several months, Town staff have worked with local businesses to repaint fire lanes and update signage, making the red zones more visible and easier to identify. These designated areas are critical access points that allow fire crews, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles to reach buildings more quickly when seconds matter.
Blocked fire lanes can slow emergency response, increase risk during life-safety incidents, and violate local fire codes. Clear lanes ensure firefighters can position equipment, connect to hydrants and other fire department connections, reach all sides of a building with hose lines, and perform essential fire-safety operations.
The Town encourages residents, businesses, and visitors to support community safety by keeping marked fire lanes clear, helping others understand their importance, and reporting recurring violations. For questions or to report ongoing issues, please contact the Leland Police Department at (910) 371-1100.
