The Town of Leland is reminding residents that updated regulations regarding poultry, livestock, and wild animals within Town limits will take effect June 1. The Leland Police Department will begin issuing citations to property owners who are not in compliance with the updated ordinance.
The adopted changes impose restrictions on the ownership of poultry, livestock, and wild animals based on property size and animal type. The ordinance also establishes requirements for the location and size of enclosures.
These updates were adopted by Town Council to help protect the community by addressing concerns related to noise, public health, sanitation, and neighborhood impacts, while also supporting the well-being of the animals.
The Town encourages residents, businesses, and visitors to help support a safe and healthy community by understanding the updated requirements and reporting recurring violations. For questions or to report ongoing issues, please contact the Leland Police Department at (910) 371-1100.
