Give Back to Your Community at Lend a Hand

Lend a Hand in Leland

The Town of Leland invites volunteers to participate in Lend a Hand, a community-wide day of service, on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will have the opportunity to choose from six service projects supporting local organizations and community initiatives, including environmental stewardship, beautification, food assistance, and future transportation planning.

The event begins at 8 a.m. at Founders Park, located at 113 Town Hall Drive, where volunteers will check in, enjoy light refreshments, connect with fellow participants, and learn more about the organizations they'll be supporting. At 9 a.m., volunteers will travel to their assigned locations and begin serving throughout the community.

Lend a Hand is a community-wide day of service that fosters civic pride and connections by bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in meaningful volunteer efforts that address local needs and strengthen community well-being.

This year’s volunteer opportunities include:

  • Stream Cleanup: Kayak with Cape Fear River Watch to collect water samples and remove litter along the Cypress Cove Park watershed.
  • Trash Pickup: Join We Live Here to collect roadside litter in the Westgate District.
  • Tree Planting: Help Alliance for Cape Fear Trees plant trees to beautify and enhance the Westgate District.
  • Food Distribution: Assist First Baptist Church of Leland with its drive-thru food bank.
  • Food Drive: Collect donations to support future food distributions through First Baptist Church of Leland.
  • Walk Audit: Participate in an AARP-led walk audit to help inform future improvements along Village Road.

Community members are encouraged to participate in any of the volunteer opportunities. Participants must register in advance. For more information about each project and to register, visit the Town website.

Since its launch in 2023, Lend a Hand has brought together 444 volunteers to support eight local organizations, demonstrating the power of community service. Together, these dedicated volunteers have completed 19 meaningful projects, making a lasting impact throughout the community.
