Apply to be a part of the Leland Citizen Academy, a free program designed to help residents better understand the services, operations, and day-to-day work of their local government. Over six weeks, Town staff will lead six weekly sessions that give participants an inside look at how the Town of Leland operates and the services it provides to the community.

Participants will:

  • Tour Town facilities
  • Meet Town leaders, department heads, and staff
  • Learn about budgeting, planning, public works, and public safety
  • Gain insight into local decision-making processes
  • Explore opportunities for community involvement and volunteerism
  • Build connections with fellow residents and community leaders

Town Administration Learn about the role of local government, municipal services, and how the Town departments work together to serve residents. 
Public Safety Meet police and fire personnel and learn how they work to keep the community safe. 
Public Works and Infrastructure Discover how roads, water systems, stormwater management, and public facilities are maintained. 
Planning and Development Understand how growth, zoning, economic development, and community planning shape the future of the Town. 
Parks, Recreation and Community Services Explore programs, events, and services that enhance quality of life for residents of all ages. 
Finance and Budgeting Learn how tax dollars are allocated and how the Town develops and manages its annual budget.
