The Town of Leland has completed its 2024-2025 roadway resurfacing project, advancing a long-term initiative to resurface approximately 5% of Town roads annually to align with a typical 20-year usable lifespan. This initiative was approved as part of the fiscal year 2024-2025 budget. The program helps ensure travel throughout Leland remains safe, structurally sound, and accessible for all residents and visitors.
This year, five miles of roads were resurfaced, including Grandiflora Drive, Wyland Court, Stanfield Court, Greymoss Lane, Pine Harvest Drive, Parkmore Court, Alba Lane, Tommy Jacobs Drive, Sunburst Way, a portion of Carolina Avenue, Westport Drive, Eric Court, Potomac Court, and Avebury Court.
In addition to resurfacing, the project added bike lanes, upgraded curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and installed new signage and pavement markings, including double yellow centerlines, pedestrian crosswalks, and stop bars. Together, these upgrades improve safety and accessibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
The 2025-2026 roadway resurfacing project is already underway, with funding having been approved in the fiscal year 2025-2026 budget. An engineering firm has been selected, survey of the roadways is complete, and design work is in progress.
The Town is also finalizing its condition assessment for all existing pavement and pavement markings. Staff will use the results of this assessment to prioritize streets and provide maintenance and resurfacing recommendations over the next three years.
