The Town of Leland invites community members to attend the fifth annual Hurricane Expo on Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Leland Cultural Arts Center, located at 1212 Magnolia Village Way.
The Hurricane Expo provides residents with an opportunity to learn how to prepare for hurricane season with guidance from local, state, and federal experts. Attendees can participate in workshops, join a public safety roundtable, gather important storm-related information from agencies across the state, pick up a copy of the official Town of Leland Hurricane Guide, and enter to win a rain barrel.
Workshops will be held at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. One workshop, led by the National Weather Service, will focus on the upcoming hurricane season. Another, led by Town staff, will cover flood zone hazards, stormwater management, and FEMA’s Community Rating System program.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the public safety Q&A roundtable at 12:30 p.m., where representatives from the Town, the National Weather Service, and Brunswick County Emergency Management will answer questions about hurricane preparedness.
“Every hurricane season is different, and it only takes one storm to change everything,” said Emergency Management Chief John Grimes. “Being prepared ahead of time can make all the difference in keeping your family and property safe.”
Gather valuable information from the Town of Leland Fire/Rescue, Police, Public Works, and Planning and Inspections departments, as well as Brunswick County Emergency Services, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the National Weather Service, Legal Aid of North Carolina, the Red Cross, and the N.C. Cooperative Extension Agency.
