The Town of Leland is excited to announce the addition of two dual-port Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at Founders Park, making it easier and more convenient for residents and visitors to access public charging.
The project was supported through a $10,000 reimbursement grant from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NC DEQ) Division of Air Quality Level 2 Public Access Program.
The EV charging stations are free to use and available during park hours: sunrise to sunset from October through April, and 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. from May through September. The chargers provide convenient access for people visiting Founders Park, the library, or the Brunswick Center at Leland.
“We are committed to making thoughtful investments that support sustainability, accessibility, and quality of life for our residents,” said Mayor Brenda Bozeman. “The addition of EV charging stations at Founders Park reflects our ongoing efforts to plan for the future while enhancing amenities that serve our community today.”
Charging data from the stations will help the Town track usage trends, educate the community about electric vehicles, and support future planning for expanded EV infrastructure.
At the time of the grant award, the Town of Leland was one of 23 sites statewide selected to install EV charging stations.
According to NC DEQ, the program is designed to expand North Carolina’s zero-emission vehicle infrastructure, encourage adoption of clean transportation alternatives, and improve air quality by reducing emissions of nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and greenhouse gases.
