The Town of Leland has been awarded a $10,000 FOCUS Broadband Connect Grant to assist with installing enhanced Wi-Fi and security at Founders Park. These enhancements will have a tremendous impact for park visitors by increasing opportunities for community engagement and economic development, as well as providing free broadband access for residents in Leland and surrounding municipalities.
The Town applied for the grant as part of the upcoming Founders Park renovations. The project will bring new amenities to the park, including an amphitheater, splashpad, veterans memorial, inclusive playground, walking trail renovations, fitness stations, natural play area, picnic shelters, added parking, and restrooms.
The grant funding will allow the Town to expand Wi-Fi access throughout the park, offering internet access to visitors and event vendors. This will directly impact the musicians, artists, craftsmen, and food/beverage businesses participating in Town events by ensuring they can accept electronic payment methods and increase efficiency and marketing efforts. The grant will also help in installing security cameras at Founders Park.

Since 2018, FOCUS Broadband has awarded Connect Grants to aid in costs associated with the delivery and utilization of FOCUS Broadband services used by local organizations who provide technology and economic initiatives which require connectivity. The grant program is a key element of FOCUS Broadband’s vision to improve internet access and increase the use of technology in areas served by the company.
